4.0 out of 5 stars Great Alternative to Otterbox, July 22, 2011
This review is from: Gumdrop Cases Drop Tech Series Case for Apple iPad 2, Black-Black, (DS-IPAD2-BLK-BLK-V2) (Personal Computers)
When I first got my iPad 2 as a birthday present I searched for days looking for a case that would seriously protect it. I looked at the otterbox case but it got pretty awful reviews so I ended up getting this one instead. It turned out to be a great purchase. It only took me a minute or two to put it on and it holds together very well. There's some slight squeaking of the plastic along the right side in one area on mine that occurs whenever you pick the iPad up but it doesn't really bother me. The only downside of this case, which some of the other reviews have pointed out, is that the silicon part covering the home button sticks occasionally. In order to make it click the actual home button again you have to pry that silicon piece up and then gently push it back in. Overall this isn't that big of a deal for me because it only sticks every now and again and it takes a whole of half a second to fix it but it is a slightly annoying occurrence for such an expensive case. It does add... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Gumdrop Miltary, June 7, 2011

The Gumdrop folks are all over the net talking about this thing, and hey, it really is a great case. Easy to hold onto, feels super solid and I have no doubt that it will protect my iPad. I have the "military" green model and I'm not 100% sure the extra $10 is worth it, but I'm very pleased overall and I did notice that there is a fabric "filter" over the speaker opening that should keep dust out as advertised. It's a rugged case, it will add bulk, but that's the name of the game in this type of case.

Now there is going to be a ton of comparison to the Otterbox. For me the thing what pushes this case past theirs are the channels in the plastic part of the case to hold the rubber in place. I've had many of the Otterbox cases for my iPhones over the years and that has been my one gripe. I also really like the "snap-in" screen protector because it is easy to replace.

Very good protection, the only thing I might add would be an actual cover of some sort for... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Very solid Otterbox alternative, July 28, 2011
When shopping for a case for my iPad 2, I knew I wanted one that was very protective- I was okay sacrificing some weight and size as long as the protection was top notch (I always baby my devices, but with how heavily I use my iPad I didn't want to take any chances.) My first consideration was the Otterbox- I had heard nothing but great things about them from friends with iPhones, etc. But as I was researching their iPad 2 case, I consistently heard negative comments saying that the case didn't live up to the Otterbox standard. Deterred from that, I came upon this Gumdrop Drop Series case as an alternative offering a similar amount of protection. After more research, I decided to take the plunge and buy the all black one- and I'm very glad I did. The case was very easy to install, and protects the entire iPad as well as all of its switches and ports very well. It's comfortable to hold, and makes me feel very good about my iPad's safety.
A few things to note, that I wouldn't... Read more
